We are officially in full swing here on Capitol Hill. We are starting to have bills proposed, subcommittees have begun to meet, and bills have been assigned. Personally, I have met with my committees twice over the course of the past two weeks and this year I am serving on the Economic Growth Committee, Natural Resources Committee, Agriculture Committee, and Appropriations Committee. The deadline for submitting personal bill requests is Friday Jan 19th at 4:30 PM. I have requested multiple bills and will be telling you about specifics in future newsletters. Also, I plan to cosponsor several other bills drafted by both Democrats and Republicans.
While in my committee meetings the past couple of weeks, I had one particular issue that stood out to me that I would like to share. I heard from the Secretary of Agriculture of Iowa, Bill Northey, and he let us know that his appointment by President Trump to the United States Department of Agriculture has been put on hold due to Secretary Northey’s support of renewable energy. This appointment was put on hold by the United States Senator from Texas, Ted Cruz-R.
